Athens, Greece

In September of 2024, my husband and I took a trip to Athens, Greece. We really enjoyed the people, culture, archaeological sites, music, and the food.

I will be placing some of my favorite photos on this page.

Athens, Greece is a vibrant city of just a little over 3 million people. It's a city that meets modern with ancient and each one respects the other, living within each other.

Athens, Greece in late September was hot. The temperatures were in the low 80's F., but the sun here is intense.

One of my first sights I saw in Athens, Greece.

Acropolis Hill

The Herodeon, was a music theatre that sat 5000 people.

The Propylaea.

Entering the Acropolis through the Propylaea. This was an exciting time for all of us who had never been in the Acropolis.

Sacred Olive Tree was placed here to be part of the Erechtheion.

The Partheon on the Acropolis Hill. Many of the buildings here are continually being restorated.

Notice the man right under the roof line on the right side of the photo. It's like he is a child playing Hide and Seek under the roof line! The Partheon.

Athens City

This area with the Greek flag on top of the Acropolis Hill, commemorates the resistence of two 19 year old students against the Nazis.
April 27, 1941 the Nazis ordered a Greek soldier to remove the Greek flag  and replace it with a Nazi Swastika flag. The soldier wrapped himself in the Greek flag and jumped over the cliff to commit suicide.
May 30, the two 19 year old students pulled down the flag and threw it over the cliff. The Nazis placed a price on their heads, but the two students were never betrayed.
