 Fred Flintstone in at least one episode had to wear shoes while driving.  They didn't work due to he ran his car on man-power.  (Running while sitting in the car.)  So he kept the shoe tops and rid himself of the soles.  He again was able to drive/run his car.

"The Flintstones" was an American cartoon put out by  Hanna-Barbera Productions from 1960-1966.
